Sustainable Living

East Bridgford Community are doing an amazing job of keeping the country side and it’s  biodiversity alive for years to come. They have some amazing projects ..one of these is a community orchard…please click if you wish to support them when you come to visit. If you would like to join in any local events eg – watch the local drama group or support the Barn  Dance please click here: http://www.eastbridgford.org/

East Bridgford Hill only uses local produce and where ever possible employs local people and utilizes local business. We live in a conservation area and over the years the Robens family have planted over 100 trees, planted 100s of flowers. All the rooms have natural organics soaps and conditioners – guests especially love Emmas’Soap as it is not only natural by also no palm oil is used.We stock many of her soaps if you would like to buy one.

In our Victorian walled garden we have three local families running allotments one even has a fantastic scarecrow! Our victorian walled garden is perfect for children birthdays parties.

We have bats and badgers, rabbits and rare breed ducks, a stray cat called Alfie and an old labrador called Freddie.

East Bridgford Hill is working toward a place where they can bring on local apprentiships for young people who have little chance of working in the country. Many of our future events will have the underlying principles of SELF.

S.E.L.F – Sustainable Environmental Living for the Future

We are endeavoring to be carbon neutral by the end of 2012. We have old underwater tanks under the house we are looking into creating underwater heat source from.

All caterers and bar companies who come onto the site have to take away their rubbish and recycle all paper and bottles with in 24 hours of their event at East Bridgford Hill.

Our Victorian Grade 11 listed walled garden has local people with allotments and we are part of the Land Share scheme by ‘River Cottage’.

All our events can make a contribution to any of our charities and our SELF events all help raise funds to bring similar workshops to schools.

All produce where possible is either local or fair trade. We are in a conservation area and we love our pheasants- golden pheasant, rabbits, ducks and birds that live among us…quite a treat if you are an early riser as they all gather on the lawns.

We will be holding a fair-trade Christmas Bazar this year specializing on local goods and those that help communities and individuals in other parts of the world.
